Any suggestions on a good commentary on Matthew? I have several books on the sermon on the mount, but I am looking for a commentary on the entire book, preferably a work that is on Matthew, (single author on a single book) and not part of a commentary on the whole bible.ThanksDoug Newell

MacArthur's is very good (but you'll have to overlook the fact it's four volumes). Though he alters his hermeneutics whenever he comes to prophecy (because he's amillennial) William Hendriksen is outstanding.Jim

Stanley Toussaint's "Behold The King", is a must have.Doug, a book that has helped me in selecting commentaries; 'Commentaries For Biblical Expositors', by Jim Rosscup and forwarded by MacArthur.Another resource that might benefit is the '850 Books For Biblical Expositors' list by the Master's Seminary: http://www.tms.edu/pdf/850Books.pdf

The MacArthur commentary on Matthew is available on Logos for $79.99 for all four volumes (no bargain) but very usable in electronic form. The best price I can find on line for the print editions is $17.90 per volume at Grace Books International.I also agree with Jim on Hendricksen's work but you'll have trouble with Chapters 24 & 25 unless you're Amil.

If you have libronix, check out the "Analytical Bible Expositor" by John Butler. One thing I like about it is that it is already aliterated. This guy is pretty good at that. Hope it helps you.Brent

I happen to be selling my MacArthur set on Matthew. I only have v1 available now for $17 which includes shipping. I switched over to libronix (logos) which I love. If interested see http://tinyurl.com/qhkzh6
